Your New Blog, Step by Step

More and more people are getting into the world of blogging but for some, it can seem intimidating. ”Do I need to know HTML and CSS?” and ”Where do I host my site?” often become daunting questions that lead some to give up before they’ve even started.

It doesn’t have to be daunting though… SiteBlog has made it really easy to set up your new blog without having to worry about all the technical stuff.

So let’s get started…

1. Visit the SiteBlog Website

Click on the “Get Started Now” button and fill in your details.

2. Pick a Domain Name

On this page, fill in a domain name for your new blog and the system will check whether the name you’ve chosen is available.

Choosing a good domain name

Make sure to follow these steps when choosing a domain name:

  1. Keep it Simple - Your domain name should be simple, easy to remember and relatively short. Something like “myfantasticawesomeblogaboutbikes.com” would be difficult to remember. Rather try for something like “superbikes.com” so that your visitors can find you easily and remember your blog name.
  2. Relevant - Using a relevant name is important. Make sure that the name you choose reflects what your blog is about.

Already have a domain?

Just click on the “Already own a domain?” box and fill in your details.

3. Pick a Template

Browse through the available templates and pick the one that’s closest to what you envision your blog to look like. You can edit and change templates as you need to.

“Pick

Click “Preview” to see what the design looks like and click “Edit” on the template you like to start building your site.

“Preview”

4. Edit Your Blog

To start adding blog posts, click on “Blog” on the left-hand side menu, then click on “Add New Post”

“Add

On the next screen you’ll see something like this:

“Post

Here you’ll be able to add the title to your blog, edit the cover image, and write your actual post. Be sure to click “Save Post” on the bottom right once you’re finished writing your post.

5. Finishing Touches

Another important aspect of running your own blog is the “look and feel” of the site.

First, make sure you’ve customized your blog by adding pictures, contact details and making sure you’ve added all the pages and content your site needs. Link to your social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter.

Clicking the “Add” button on the left menu bar opens up the menu to add different types of sections to your page.

“Adding

From here you can add images, text, buttons, menus, videos, contact forms, and much more.

The left menu bar also features options for adding and organizing pages, adding and re-ordering sections on your pages, and overall site design options.

Don’t be afraid to experiment as you can always undo any action by clicking the undo button on the top of the page. You can view what your site will look like by clicking the “Preview” button at the top of the page.

Please remember to save your site often by clicking the “Save” button at the top of the page.

6. Publishing Your Blog

Once you’ve finished customizing your blog, be sure to click the “Save” button on the top of the page. Then click the “Publish” button to publish your blog to the internet.

“Save

Once you’ve done this, your brand new blog will be live for all to see.

Good luck and keep blogging.
